Update On Main Works 04/05/11
Progress with the excavation and infilling works in April has been good with the majority of the material now removed from Grid Cells G2 and H2. These cells are located in the south west corner of the site.
We anticipate that these two cells will be completed shortly with activity then moving to Grid Cell C2.
In May, after the completion of Grid Cell C2, the excavation will move back to Grid Cell C1 (anticipated week commencing 9th May), which residents will note was the cell which was delayed so that additional mitigation measures could be established to deal with the potentially odorous material.
The details of the odour suppressant system have now been agreed with the Council. The mitigation measures comprise temporary fencing clad with debris netting erected around the northern, eastern and southern edges of Grid Cell C1. Atomiser nozzles would be located on the fencing at 3m intervals and will be more effective at dealing with any potential odour closer to its source.
After completion of Grid Cells C2 and C1, the excavation will move to the Jenkinsons Yard Part of the site (Grid Cells A3, B3 and C3). In this area enabling works have been undertaken to allow the installation of the propping which will take place during May, with the excavation of the remaining contaminated material to follow.
During this time, backfilling and compaction testing will continue within Grid Cells A1, A2, B1 and B2, with the completion of this work expected during the beginning of June.
Backfilling of Grid Cells G2 and H2 will follow after these areas have been validated by RSK.
